Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin calls it a hallmark step in the city's growth:

Stamford-based RMS Companies has agreed to develop four major parcels around Dunkin' Donuts Park.

"This is an important part of the broader effort to knit our neighborhoods back together," says the mayor, "to attract investment and catalyze investment north of Downtown and up Albany Avenue and up North Main Street."

Development wlll start this spring on "Parcel C," bordering Trumbull St. and Main St.

City officials say Parcel C will include more than 200 residential units, 11,000 sq. feet of retail/ "flex" space and a 250-space parking structure, at a total cost of $50 million.

Details on this first phase were announced at an afternoon news conference at City Hall.

One of Mayor Bronin's long-running goals has been paving the way for a much-needed major supermarket in Hartford. He says that's probably not going to happen on Parcel C, but he adds that the development deal with RMS "includes the expectation they will, not in the first phase, but in a subsequent phase, build retail space that would be suitable for a grocery store."
