(WTIC-AM) -- Hartford police today said a city man who stabbed his girlfriend about 30 times and kidnaped her son is now in New York City, where he was apprehended at a McDonald's this morning.
Edgar Maldonado had fled to Worcester, Massachusetts, with the boy, where the child was found wandering the streets alone.
Hartford Police Lieutenant Paul Cicero said 23-year-old Edgar Maldonado is being held as a fugitive from justice, facing attempted murder, kidnapping, and other charges once he's returned to Connecticut.
Cicero says when the six-year-old boy was found wandering on a street in Worcester, police also found the car where the 43-year-old woman was attacked early Tuesday on Natick Street in Hartford.
"We received information from Worcester Police that when the vehicle was recovered a bladed weapon was located in plain view inside the vehicle," Cicero said.
Hartford Police are waiting to get the vehicle, before conducting their search.
Police say it's unclear how Maldonado go to New York.
The victim remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
