CHESHIRE, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Hundreds of high school athletes protested in Cheshire Wednesday, denouncing the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference's decision to cancel the state's remaining high school winter sports championship tournaments, over concerns about the coronavirus. The basketball and hockey players and swimmers insist the decision was an overreaction and is not fair-- especially to seniors who don't get another shot next year. But Glenn Lungarini, the executive director of the CIAC, said some schools said they would not participate and some venues indicated they could not host the events.Despite the tens of thousands who've signed an online petition asking the CIAC to reconsider, Lungarini says the decision is final.
