Man Found Asleep With Gun in New Haven Drive-Through

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - New Haven police arrested a West Haven man with several charges after finding him asleep in a McDonald's drive-through with a gun on his lap.

Tobias Nivens, 32, was asleep in the driver's seat with the engine running in the drive-through lane of the Kimberly Avenue restaurant, according to New Haven police.

Authorities responded to a 911 call about Nivens, who had a handgun on his lap, at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday. 

Police say officers knocked on the car windows to wake Nivens. 

When he woke up, police say Nivens drove away, speeding into West Haven.

Officials say police pursued him to his West Haven residence where Nivens surrendered. 

According to police, officers recovered the gun Nivens had thrown out of the car during the pursuit.

Police arrested Nivens with nine charges including criminal possession of a firearm and engaging police in pursuit.

Nivens was held with a $250,000 bond. Nivens was scheduled to be arraigned in New Haven Superior Court Monday.
