WTIC 1080 News - Last Friday July 19th at approximately 6:15 PM, a police officer on patrol on Elm Street near Silver Street heard what sounded like a motor vehicle crash coming from the intersection of East Main and Elm and upon further investigation discovered a car vs. bicycle crash at the intersection of East Main Street and Elm Street had just occurred. The Middletown Police Dept. Traffic Bureau responded to investigate. A preliminary investigation revealed that a 14 year old male was riding his bicycle south on Elm Street toward the intersection of East Main Street. A vehicle was traveling north on East Main Street toward Elm Street. The bicyclist entered the intersection and collided with the vehicle. The vehicle left the scene of the crash moments after the crash occurred.The 14 year old male was treated on scene by South District Fire and Hunters Ambulance and was subsequently transported to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford for further treatment. At the time of this press release, the 14 year old male was listed in stable condition and being held for observation. A vehicle of interest is being described as a red or maroon Chevrolet Silverado 4 door crew cab pickup truck with a white male operator and a white female passenger. This motor vehicle crash is still under investigation. Witnesses are requested to contact Officer Passacantando at 860-638-4063.
UPDATE
The Middletown Police Traffic Bureau has located a person of interest and the vehicle of interest associated with this motor vehicle crash. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
