HARTFORD, Conn (WTIC Radio)_ The State Senate voted early Friday morning on a bill that increases Connecticut's minimum wage.
In a debate that lasted lawmakers more than six hours, the State Senate voted 21-14 in favor of a bill that gradually increases Connecticut's current $10.10 an hour to $15.00 an hour by June, 2023.
Opponents feel the bill comes at a time when many businesses in the state are struggling to make ends meet and cannot afford paying employees more.
Proponents say it gives low-income earners a better chance take care of their families and possibly move out of poverty.
Governor Ned Lamont is looking forward to signing the bill in the coming days.
