NAUGATUCK, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Naugatuck High School has closed until further notice after a 12th grade student tested positive for COVID-19.
Students were dismissed at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday. High school officials said the student who tested positive was physically present at the school on Tuesday.
All students will move forward with distance learning from home, officials said.
Following guidance from the State Department of Public Health, Department of Education, and the CDC, the school will be deep cleaned and sanitized, all before and after school activities are postponed, and the community will be kept up to date on next steps.
According to officials, the school will be working with the Naugatuck Valley Health Department to assess the situation and to determine when staff and students can return to the building. Officials estimate this process taking between two to five days.
Officials said the senior who tested positive does not ride the bus and is assigned to Group-B in-person learning on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They said contact tracing is underway.
Naugatuck High School will be providing breakfast and lunch for pick-up during the closure between 11:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. starting Thursday.
