Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - The state Department of Public Health is announcing the first case of the clade I mpox virus in Connecticut.
DPH says the infected person recently traveled to western Europe, where clade I mpox has been spreading.
Health officials stress the case “does not pose a risk to the general public.”
Dr. Manisha Juthani, commissioner of DPH, says mpox "hasn't gone away" and they suggest people be proactive and get vaccinated.
Juthani says the virus continues to hit gay and bisexual men in particular.
The two strains of mpox are clade I and clade II.
The latter has been spreading around the U.S. since an outbreak in 2022.
Symptoms include a rash which forms a scab and heals over several weeks.
Other symptoms may include fever, chills, headache, sore throat, or swollen lymph nodes.
