(WTIC-AM 1080) -- The driver of a flatbed tow truck died following an incident involving a forklift in Branford today, according to Branford Police.

The town's Assistant Fire Chief Shaun Heffernan says crews were sent to Whip-It Tire on North Main Street at 11 am.

"When we arrived, there was a 58-year-old gentlemen underneath the forklift unconscious," Heffernan said. "Our crews removed the forklift and removed the patient."

Branford Police say the driver from New Haven was hauling the forklift on his truck, when he stopped in the garage's driveway to put air in one of his truck's tires.

When he adjusted the position of the forklift, it fell about 4 or 5 feet and landed on him.
