PLAINVILLE, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - A train derailment Sunday night in Plainville has renewed safety concerns about freight trains in town.A Pan Am Railways train consisting of an engine and three tanker cars derailed in the area of Roosevelt Street and Russell Avenue around 10 p.m., according to Town Manager Robert Lee.First responders were able to determine that the propane tankers were empty, said Lee.A worker on the train was thrown during the derailment, but declined medical treatment, Lee said.Cleanup of the area could take days.Lee says he plans to have a conversation with the Connecticut Department of Transportation about the safety of the rail line. The stretch of tracks has a speed limit of 5 miles per hour, he said."They, being the DOT and Pan Am, felt that it was sufficient as far as safety is concerned," said Lee. "I begin to question that, given what happened last night."
