FARMINGTON, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut Water Company customers in Farmington are being asked to hold off on non-essential water use until early Tuesday.

The company made the request Monday morning after it said a mechanical failure prevented water holding tanks from refilling overnight Sunday into Monday.

Customers have been asked to avoid watering their lawns and filling swimming pools until the system has rebounded.

The request comes as Connecticut Water reports a spike in demand related to COVID-19. The company says with more people at home during the pandemic, they are seeing peak water usage typically reserved for the busiest weekends of summer.

Though it has been dry of late, the company has not entered any of its drought states at this point.
