(WTIC-AM) -- Late this afternoon, jurors convicted a young defendant on a manslaughter charge in the deadly shooting of a 16-year-old in Wethersfield.

The clerk's office confirmed that at the same time, jurors also found Noah Hendron not guilty of the more serious charge of murder.

Wethersfield High School student Vincent Basile was shot in the head at a home on Alison Lane November 2, 2017.

The teen  had been hanging out with friends, when Hendron pointed a handgun at Basile and a shot was fired.

Hendron's defense attorney argued that the shooting was an accident, and that it lacked the intent to be considered a murder.

But the states attorney argued that the case was a murder, because Hendron pointed the weapon at the younger teenager for some time, and then pulled the trigger.

Hendron was 18 at the time of the shooting.

He was also convicted of having a pistol without a permit.

Sentencing is scheduled for January 2 in New Britain Superior Court.
