
EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - State police say a school bus driver from South Windsor and a trucker from Pennsylvania were killed in Monday morning's crash on Interstate 84 westbound in East Hartford.
Verlean Douglas, 67, was driving the bus, that was rear-ended by the tractor trailer driven by Norman Bliss, 52, of Etters, Pennsylvania in stopped traffic shortly after 5 a.m., said police.
The initial crash caused a chain reaction, in which two other tractor trailers were involved. Police say Bliss' truck jack-knifed and caught fire after the crash. The fire spread to the bus and the two other trucks, said police.
Though police do not mention it in their accident information summary, there has been construction in the area that often slows traffic.
The crash closed the westbound side of the highway for around 13 hours.
