WATERTOWN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The two teenagers who were allegedly shot by their mother's boyfriend at a home in Watertown have died, police confirmed Wednesday morning.
A woman called Watertown Police from her residence on Litchfield Road around 9:47 p.m., reporting her boyfriend shot her son and daughter with a gun.
Upon arrival, Officers found the teens suffering from life-threatening injuries. The teens were taken to Waterbury Hospital for treatment. They died a short time later, said police.
They are identified as Della Jette, 15, and Sterling Jette Jr., 16, who lived at the address. Both were students at Keynor Technical High School in Waterbury, said police.
The two teens attended Watertown Public Schools through eighth grade, and though they were not students at Watertown High School, grief counselors are being made available at the high school and Swift Middle School, education officials said.
Police say the alleged shooter, Paul Ferguson, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Ferguson was a convicted felon who moved into the home about two weeks ago, said police.
Police say Ferguson shot the teens after Della Jette complained about his smoking and they got into an argument.
Preliminary investigation reveals Ferguson and one of the teens were arguing, when the mother tried to intervene, Ferguson got a gun, shot both children and then himself, said police.
Watertown Police are investigating the incident with assistance from Connecticut State Police.
