FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ Officials say a tree damaged by weekend storms led to death of a Fairfield man.
Emergency responders went to the area in front of 3330 Sturges Highway around 2:16 p.m. on Sunday where there were reports a large Sassafras tree limb fell onto a vehicle. Officials found David Schmerzler unconscious in the driver seat.
Schmerzler was transported to Norwalk Hospital where he was pronounced dead around 3:18 p.m.
His wife was in the passenger seat and his adult daughter was in the rear passenger seat. Their injuries were minor.
The case is under investigation.
