(WTIC-AM) -- Wallingford officials are considering a new restriction on the sale of e-cigarettes.
The town council ordinance committee put the issue on its agenda for discussion tonight.
Wallingford's town council is weighing a proposal to raise the minimum legal age to purchase electronic cigarettes to 21 in town.
Hartford has already approved a similar ordinance, setting the legal age to buy tobacco products at 21.
Other towns, including East Hartford and Bloomfield are also considering increasing the age to purchase tobacco and-or e-cigarettes.
The makers of electronic cigarettes say their products can help wean people of of regular cigarettes.
But public health advocates say E-cigarettes like Juul are often used by teenagers, and get young people addicted to high levels of nicotine when they vape.
