PLAINVILLE, Conn. (WTIC) - An art teacher at Plainville's Toffolon Elementary School is one of 33 to be honored this year by the so-called "Oscars of education."
Michael Zaba was surprised in front of a school wide assembly this morning with the $25,000 Milken Educator Award.
Zaba's plans for the money include building a STEM lab to replace the school's old computer lab.
"I know that the state is working towards next generation science standards. It would be a wonderful place to have a lab for all the kids and teachers to use, to come together."
Zaba is the only teacher in Connecticut to receive the honor this school year.
