LEDYARD, Conn. (AP) — Police have identified a driver who was critically injured after he was shot by officers and crashed into a tree in Connecticut.
State Police say they tried to stop 35-year-old Francisco Hernandez in Ledyard late Sunday after he almost struck a cruiser.
Troopers and local police gave chase and deployed stop sticks to try and stop Hernandez. They say the vehicle then pulled into a driveway and sped at an officer who had left his cruiser.
Police say two Ledyard officers fired shots at Hernandez, who was struck and drove into a tree.
He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital in critical condition.
No officers were injured.
Police say charges against Hernandez are pending. An investigation is ongoing.
