(WTIC-AM) -- The chairwoman of the Connecticut Port Authority announced her resignation this afternoon.
Port Authority Chairwoman Bonnie Reemsnyder made the announcement during a board meeting in Hartford.
The Day of New London recently reported that the Port Authority paid $3,000 to Reemsnyder's daughter, for pictures on display at the authority's headquarters.
It was part of a larger redecorating project.
Reemsnyder was a board member, but not the chairwoman when the artwork was purchased.
The governor's office said Ned Lamont asked Reemsnyder to step down. The governor said Reemsnyder took actions that were unacceptable given the importance of the board, but the statement did not say what those actions were.
The governor's office says recent events have been a distraction to the authority's mission.
The Port Authority's director, Evan Matthews, was recently placed on paid leave, and an interim director was named. Authority leaders would not say why Matthews was on leave.
Reemsnyder is also the first selectwoman of Old Lyme.
