WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC) - Public Works officials have been preparing for today's flooding from heavy rains and melting snow and ice.

Many cities and towns spent Wednesday finishing snow removal and clearing catch basins, as temperatures may jump as juch as 50 degrees in a 48 hour period. That means the snow and ice on frozen ground will melt quickly, and will be coupled with several inches of rain that could fall today.

John Phillips, the Public Works Director for the town of West Hartford said his crew has made plenty of headway, and have been prioritizing snow removal to focus on areas prone to street flooding.

Phillips says they're counting on residents to help where they can by safely clearing out any snow and ice from the catch basins. Residents can also call DPW or the police if they spot any issues in areas of town that are prone to flooding.
