NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTIC) – New Britain City officials and residents are celebrating the grand opening of the newly renovated A.W. Stanley Park, which includes a new pool.
During a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday night, the pool officially became open to the public, as a free event was held with a DJ and contests as well.
Mayor Erin Stewart noted the project has been two and a half years in the making with renovations taking place over the past year. City leaders came together to help upgrade the facility, as the original pool had not been updated in nearly 50 years.
The pool features a zero depth entry and runs up to 12 feet. The renovations also include a rock climbing wall, diving board and interactive splash features.
Additionally, the park has a new basketball court, baseball/softball fields and a water walk next to the pond.
Non-residents can enjoy the pool and park as well, and there is a small fee for everyone attending the pool this summer.
The project cost $5.3 million and was paid for through City bonding and $500,000 from the Stanley Trust fund.
