HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC) - Special elections are being held around Connecticut today for five General Assembly seats.
Seats are up for grabs after the lawmakers who won in the general election later decided not to be sworn in, opting instead to take jobs in the administration of the new Governor, Ned Lamont.
The departing lawmakers include Senators Tim Larson of East Hartford, Beth Bye of West Hartford, and Terry Gerratana of New Britain. The House seats to be filled by the winners of today's elections were represented by Chris Soto of New London, and James Albis of East Haven.
In total, the three Senate districts include all of East Hartford, East Windsor, South Windsor, West Hartford, Burlington, Berlin, and New Britain, plus parts of several other towns and cities. The state House spots up for grabs are in New London and East Haven.
Democratic majorities in both the House and the Senate are large enough that the five seats would not alter control of either chamber.
