ROCKY HILL, Conn. (WTIC) - The Materials Innovation and Recycling Authority (MIRA) continues to recover from equipment failures that shut down its plant for several months.

The materials innovation and recycling authority continues to recover from equipment failures that shut down its plant for several months.

Trash built up at the plant in Hartford's South Meadows for several months after the facility's two turbines broke down at the same time. Both turbines have since been put back into operation.

During a board meeting, MIRA President Mike Kirk said the plant this week generated nearly as much energy as it had before the problems, 1,600 megawatt hours.

The regional trash burning authority has now invited towns that are not members of the authority to resume sending their trash to the facility.
