SHELTON, Conn. (WTIC) – Shelton Police Department responded on Wednesday afternoon on reports of a toddler left in an unoccupied vehicle with the windows closed.
Officers responded at 4 p.m. to Mohegan School where they discovered a Honda Civic with the windows closed and a three-year old girl alone in the backseat. While investigating the scene, the girl’s mother, 30-year old Laura Boyle came out of the school and explained she left her daughter in the car for a short time to bring her five-year old son into the school.
Officers then checked the school’s surveillance cameras, which revealed Boyle arriving at the school and leaving her daughter in the car for 10 minutes before returning to check on her. Boyle then left again for 20 minutes until police arrived.
Police say the temperature outside was 77 degrees at the time, but much hotter in the vehicle.
During the investigation, officers also discovered the vehicle was not registered or insured and Boyle’s driver’s license was suspended.
She was arrested and charged with Risk of Injury to a Child, Operation under Suspension, Operation of an Unregistered Motor Vehicle and No Insurance.
She was later released on a $1,000 bond and was given a court day in Derby Superior Court on June 19th.
