(Hartford, Conn. WTIC)-Oversight and transparency at the Connecticut Port Authority provided discussion at a public hearing of the legislature's Transportation Committee.
Some lawmakers question whether the CPA is large enough to handle the state-owned pier project in New London.
The CPA came under fire in the past for mishandling finances, but it has undergone an overhaul with a new Executive Director and Board Chairman.
State Representative Christine Conley (D-Groton) has concerns about whether the Port project can be carried out. She also wonders why the CPA didn't fashion itself like after other quasi-public agencies.
Chairman David Kooris says that's exactly what they did, leaning on the Department of Administrative Services and the Office of Policy and Management through a memorandum of understanding for assistance.
The cost of the Pier project is still being determined. It'll provide jobs and an off-shore wind project.
