(Hartford, Conn. WTIC)-The President of the Motor Transport Association of Connecticut, Joseph, Sculley criticizes the mileage fee proposal for truckers by Governor Ned Lamont because it "slams the middle class."

Sculley argues a five-axle trucker in Connecticut already pays $17-thousand in taxes and fees."20 states have already repealed this tax because it's expensive to administer and widely ignored."

The  Governor  says the proposal will raise  90-million dollars for the state's cash-starved Transportation Fund.

Sculley wonders why electric cars avoid those taxes. Additionally, he ponders what happens when trains and buses are utilized less frequently because of the Pandemic. Sculley says "that's a lot of money being sucked out of the Transportation Fund."

Finally, Sculley questions whether this proposal is paving the way to tax cars too.
