(Manchester, Conn./WTIC) - There's been another incident of a child left inside a vehicle this was stolen.

The latest occurred in Manchester Wednesday night.

Police say around 9:30 p.m., a vehicle with a nine-year-old asleep inside was taken from the parking lot of a Shell station on Hartford Road.

The mother, police say, had only been gone a short period of time.

Police Lieutenant Ryan Shea says crimes of this type are quick and when a thief zeroes in on a particular vehicle, they're not really considering the cargo inside.

Shea says the little girl awoke and began crying when she realized the person driving the car wasn't her mom.

The suspect ditched the vehicle near Interstate 384 and took off with an accomplice.

The girl was able to make it back to the gas station.

The case mirrors similar, recent incidents in Waterbury and Wolcott.

Shea advises citizens to not leave their running vehicles unattended and never with a child inside.
