(Hartford, Conn./WTIC) - Governor Lamont is seeking disaster relief for farmers impacted by last month's Tropical Storm Elsa.
The storm did a number on farmers fields and crops when it arrived on July 9.
Lamont is submitting a request for assistance to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
State agriculture officials have been criss-crossing the state touring facilities and farms to get a firsthand look at the damage wrought and to assess crop loss.
Farmers in all eight counties are eligible for disaster assistance programs and emergency loans to cover their losses.
State agriculture commissioner Bryan Hurlburt has been urging farmers and business owners to report damage to the USDA Farm Service Agency.
He says reports are that losses are significantly higher than the 30-percent threshold for a declaration.
Elsa dropped anywhere from 1.5-to-5 inches of rain on the state.
Rainfall from other storms complicated the recovery with Connecticut receiving over ten inches of rainfall total for July.
