Destructive conduct on the grounds of the US Capitol? Not me, says Derby Alderman and candidate for mayor Gino DiGiovanni: "I think the evidence that will be presented will show that I am innocent. So I still stand by that."
It's one of four misdemeanors stemming from the January Sixth rioting and looting on Capitol Hill by Trump militants that could put DiGiovanni behind bars for up to three years.
Says DiGiovanni's lawyer Martin Minela, also on Channel 3, "He professes his innocence and we welcome his day in court."
It's tough timing for DiGiovanni. The arraignment comes two weeks before Derby's Republican primary in the race for mayor.
