
Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - Hartford police have released details on the wake and funeral arrangements of an officer who died last week in the line of duty.
Along with the announcement comes word of Officer Robert "Bobby" Garten's posthumous promotion to detective.
Garten was killed and Officer Brian Kearney seriously injured September 6th when their vehicle was rammed on Asylum Avenue by a car driven by a teenager fleeing a traffic stop on Broad Street.
Detective Garten's wake will be held Friday at Dunkin' Park in Hartford from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
His funeral will be Saturday at the XL Center downtown beginning at 10 a.m. It will be open to the public.
Garten was an eight-year veteran of the Hartford Police Department, having served in a variety of capacities including patrol, street crimes, walk-beat, marine and most recently the North Street Crimes Unit.
He earned five awards for his performance in the field.
"Bobby's dedication and demeanor exemplified what it means to be a Hartford Police Officer," said Chief Jason Thody.
Mayor Luke Bronin said "(Bobby) led a distinguished career and we are forever grateful for all he gave to our community."
