DANBURY, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Danbury Police make an arrest in an abduction and rape cold case.
Police say there were a series of abductions and rapes that happened in the late 1980s in the Lake Avenue and Merrimac Street area. Despite what Danbury Police call "diligent efforts" at the time, the investigations went cold.
Police say that in November of 2023, a female victim from that period reached out for an interview. Officers also used resources that were not available in the late 1980s to do further investigation, but they didn't specify which methods they used.
It led to the arrest of David Coffey on a first-degree kidnapping charge on Tuesday for an incident involving the abduction and rape of a female resident.
Coffey was a resident in the area at that time.
Bond is $750,000.
