Litchfield, Conn./WTIC Radio - A man was injured Saturday following an encounter with a bear.
The incident occurred a little after 11:00 a.m., according to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
DEEP says the bear was poking around birdfeeders on the porch of a home in Litchfield and then moved into the yard.
Officials say the family dog chased the bear, who then attacked the dog.
The 65-year-old-man intervened and was injured.
He was taken to the hospital with non life-thretaning injuries and the dog treated by a local veterinarian.
The bear took off into the woods, police say and was not found by officers.
DEEP officials continue to implore homeowners not to have birdfeeders on their property and to secure garbage cans as they can lead to bear-human encounters.
