Canton, Conn./WTIC - Officials with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection say EnCon police were forced to euthanize a bear that had broken into a home in the town of Canton.

Sometime Monday, police were alerted after a bear attempted to enter a North Mountain Road home.
The bear was eventually scared off.
However, several hours later, EnConn oficers received another call of a bear having entered an East Hill Road home, breaking in through a window and ransacking the kitchen.
DEEP says officers made the decision to put the bear down after having shown no fear or aversion to humans.
Police say they also discovered four six-month-old cubs in a nearby tree.
The animals were captured but one died after being tranquilized.
The department says it had received numerous reports in recent weeks about a bear and cubs in the area breaking into homes and determined it was the same bear that was euthanized.
Traps were set to capture the bear, to no avail, and the animal continued exhibiting dangerous behavior, DEEP said.
