BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Bridgeport's leaders are reacting to the federal release of convicted killer and drug dealer Adrian Peeler.
Peeler received a commuted sentence at the end of the Biden administration with about 2,500 other convicted criminals who had been serving time on federal drug charges. He served time on state charges until 2021 when he was moved over to Federal prison.
Local residents have questions as to what's next for Peeler, whether he's returning to Bridgeport or somewhere else in the city.
Mayor Joe Ganim, who spoke during a press conference Thursday morning, questioned how Former President Joe Biden or someone in his administration could have approved the release and whether it was legal for someone other than the President to do so.
"I don't mean to be, sound flippant, but I'm putting I'm putting in real terms for people who live here: if Joe Biden wants to release this individual, let him take him to Delaware and let him be released there, if he thinks he should be returned to society, but not in Bridgeport," Ganim boldly said during the press conference.
Questions have been raised, at the State and Federal levels, as to whether any of President Biden's use of autopen in this case and others have legitimacy.
