FARMINGTON, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Farmington Police say a Bristol man who engaged in standoff with police is charged in connection with threats against two churches.

Police say Michael Pickering, 41, of Bristol, allegedly made threats against the staff at Saint Mary's Church and Saint Patrick's Church, both in Farmington, on July 25, 2023.

Pickering allegedly had an anti-Catholic bias displayed in the threats.

An arrest warrant was secured for Pickering and issued on Thursday, August 3, 2023.

Farmington and Bristol Police attempted to serve Pickering at his residence in the area of Woodbine and Gridley Streets on the same day.

Pickering is then accused of barricading himself inside of his home and threatening on social media that the situation wouldn't end peacefully.

Tear gas was used to get him out of the residence on Friday.

Pickering is charged with intimidation based on bigotry of bias, stalking, breach of peace, and harassment.

Bristol Police also hold an active warrant for Pickering in connection with his threatening behavior.
