The New Haven Police Department is mourning the loss of one of their own.
The Department is announcing the passing of Firefighter Thomas Kelly from Truck 4 Tillerman.
He was appointed to the department October 10, 1979 and assigned to Truck 4, Division 3.
Firefighter Kelly was conducting roof operations at a fire on Chapel street when he fell 30 feet through a covered shaft. He sustained catastrophic injuries and, after 34 years of strength and resilience, according to the Department, he succumbed to those injuries Monday.
Chief Daniel Coughlin says: "Firefighter Kelly is a prime example of the strength and commitment that all who have worn our badge possess. We ask you to pray for his family and this great Department."
