Bristol, Conn./WTIC Radio - It has been one year since two Bristol police officers lost their lives in the line of duty.

Lieutenant Dustin Demonte, Sergeant Alex Hamzy and Officer Alec Iurato were answering what they thought was a domestic call on the night of October 12th, 2022.

What they didn't know was that they were about to be ambushed at the Redstone Hill Road home.

Demonte and Hamzy were killed.

Iurato, himself seriously wounded, returned fire and killed the suspect.

It's an incident that shook the department, the city and the state to its collective core.

In the year since, Lieutenant Demonte's wife gave birth to their daughter, Officer Iurato recently returned to work, and the community tried to heal.

They'll come together Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

A candlelight vigil is planned in memory of the fallen officers outside Bristol police headquarters on North Main Street.
