STORRS, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The University of Connecticut responded to a Hazmat situation in a building on the Storrs campus on Friday.

The University says the incident occurred when a person cleaning equipment in a lab inadvertently mixed two chemical substances, causing the container to rupture and creating an odor in that fourth-floor room and nearby.

The building was fully evacuated as a precaution.

One person was evaluated on site, but no injuries were reported and the building did not sustain damage.

The Gant Science Complex reopened around 6:30 p.m. except for the fourth floor, where UConn Environmental Health & Safety officials remained on site to clean and clear the lab.

The fourth floor was reopened later Friday evening, but that lab will remain closed throughout the weekend.
