Torrington, Conn./WTIC Radio - A Burlington man is charged with murder in the death his girlfriend earlier this year.
Cole Theodore Werhan, 28, is accused in the death in March of Brooke Murphy in his Clare Hill Road home.
According to an affidavit, Werhan told state troopers he and Murphy were drinking and smoking marijuana March 29.
One of his parents called police to tell them that Werhan informed them Murphy needed medical attention, saying she fell down the stairs.
Murphy was found lying under a blanket.
Werhan told troopers that Murphy awoke in a rage, smashed her head into a wall, and tumbled down the stairs.
Her death was initially labeled suspicious.
However, the chief medical examiner determined Murphy died from blunt force trauma and ruled her death a homicide.
Werhan is being held on $5 million bond and due back in court June 30.
