Norwich, Conn./WTIC Radio - A car wound up in the Thames River in Norwich Thursday.
Fire officials say around 5:30 a.m., they began receiving calls about a car off the the Laurel Hill Bridge on Water Street.
One person was able to extricate himself from the vehicle and swim to shore off New Wharf Road.
The person was taken to Backus Hospital for treatment.
The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the U.S. Coast Guard were called in to assist.
Attempts to fish the car out of the water were called off after about half an hour, though, due to the strong current and near zero visibility.
