Central CT State University appoints interim President

The Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system is appointing Dr. Kimberly T. Kostelis as the interim President of Central Connecticut State University, effective Thursday, October 8.

Dr. Kostelis currently serves as Central’s Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and has spent more than two decades at the university, serving in faculty and leadership roles across the institution.

She is taking over the University's top leadership role after a scandal emerged involving former President Dr. Zulma Toro, who resigned on September 23 and officially retired on October 1, amid accusations that involved fostering a toxic workplace with her subordinates.

“My immediate responsibility is to provide Central with stable, effective leadership and continuity during this transition. Dr. Kostelis is well positioned to lead the university at this moment. She knows Central, having spent more than two decades at the institution, first as a faculty member, then as a department chair and Dean for the School of Education, and now as Provost,” said CSCU Interim Chancellor Natalie Braswell in a written statement.

Additional information about the search for Central’s next permanent president will be forthcoming.
