HARTFORD, CONN (WTIC Radio)-A handful of changes are coming to seven group homes in Connecticut, assisting abused and neglected kids.

Department of Children and Families Commissioner-designee Jodi Hill-Lilly said the move is a collaboration involving lawmakers, her agency and care providers.

The state currently has seven such homes.

The changes include increasing staffing and training,
enhancing therapeutic programs, creating two intensive transitional treatment centers and expediting transitions to a higher level of care when needed.

The moves require no additional funding or legislative approval.

Last year one of the homes closed in Harwinton after repeated problems.
