Charlene Russell-Tucker becomes acting education commissioner in CT

Charlene Russell-Tucker

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ Governor Ned Lamont appoints an acting State Education Commissioner.

Charlene Russell-Tucker becomes acting State Education Commissioner. She replaces former Education Commissioner Miguel Cardona, who was appointed U.S Secretary of Education under President Biden.

Russell-Tucker will remain in the role until a permanent appointment is made. With more than 20 years of experience, she recently served as deputy commissioner under Cardona.

During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, she has been a crucial voice in supporting student attendance and engagement as schools have conducted hybrid or remote learning.

Cardona is leading the nation in an effort to find ways to get schools across the country to re-open safely in the coronavirus era.

Governor Lamont must now work with the State Board of Education to find a permanent education commissioner.
