Windor Locks, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - This is National Fire Prevention Week.

In Connecticut, state Fire Administrator Jeff Morrissette at the Connecticut Fire Academy in Windsor Locks said "Planning and Practicing a home escape plan can keep your family safe during a home fire."

Typically, a person may have as little as a minute to two minutes to escape safely from the moment a smoke alarm sounds.

In an effort to create a fire escape plan, experts say it's important to keep these tips in mind:

" Get everyone in the home involved in the plan.
" Draw a map of your home and find two ways out of each room.  The second way is in case your primary exit is blocked by smoke or fire.
" Choose a meeting place outside the home where everyone will go, once they escape.
" Practice your plan so everyone knows what to do when the smoke detector sounds.

For more information, "go to closeyourdoor.org for valuable safety information about escape planning", said Morrissette.
