HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ Connecticut is planning to speed up its age-based COVID-19 vaccination rollout.
Adult residents between 45 and 54 years of age can sign up for their COVID-19 vaccine beginning on Friday, March 19.
All adult residents over 16 can tentatively begin signing up for their vaccine on Monday, April 5.
Governor Lamont previously said "challenge accepted" when President Biden announced his plans, last Thursday, to direct all states to open vaccine registration to all Americans over 16 starting on May 1.
Connecticut is receiving around 130,000 doses of vaccine this week. By early April, Governor Lamont expects the state could be receiving 200,000 doses or more.
Before the Governor switched to all-age-based eligibility, the original plan was to allow adults as young as 35 to vaccinate beginning on April 12 and for everyone 16 or older to vaccinate beginning on May 3.
As of Monday, 918,741 people received at least their first dose of a vaccine. Of that figure, 496,006 residents are fully vaccinated.
