TOLLAND, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ Tolland Firefighters closed I-84 westbound to cleanup from a crash that spilled cement-making powder.
Around 11:30 a.m. Monday, Tolland Fire went to the Old Cathole Road where a flat bed tractor trailer that was traveling west when one of its front tires blew out, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
The trailer, carrying several tons of gypsum, struck the bridge abutment, spilling most of its contents on both sides of the highway.
The rain complicated matters, as the gypsum quickly turned into a cement like substance.
Officials had to rinse off the roadway. Lanes reopened around 3 p.m. The bridge itself was not damaged.
