Middletown, Conn./WTIC Radio - Local fire crews and those with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection have been working to put down a pair of brush fires in Middletown.

DEEP says its personnel along with local departments initially responded to a brush fire Tuesday in the area of Aircraft Road.
Officials say that fire was sparked by downed power lines.
The blaze grew from 54 acres to over 150 acres, DEEP said.
In addition, officials say a separate fire in Middletown broke out, scorching about five acres as of midnight.
That fire was near an Eversource substation, where the company had crews stationed to monitor the situation.
There's no word yet on a cause of the second fire but DEEP says it was not the result of a lightning strike or power lines.
The agency puts today's forest fire danger leave at very high.
