
East Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - A man is being charged after State Police say he struck a police cruiser while driving the wrong way on Route 2 early Sunday morning.
Troopers say they received a report of the driver, identified as Robert Washam, 69, of East Hartford driving west in the eastbound lanes of Route 2 near exit 5D.
Police say they were notified that Washam had entered Route 5/15 and was headed south in the northbound direction in the right shoulder.
It was while attempting to stop Washam's vehicle that police say the suspect struck the cruiser.
He was uncooperative following the stop and exhibited signs of intoxication, according to troopers.
Washam subsequently a failed a field sobriety test and was booked on charges of reckless driving, OUI, disobeying a signal by an officer, driving the wrong way on a divided highway and other offenses.
Bond was set at $75,000 and he's due in court in Hartford on Monday.
