It was right in the middle of the day on the last day of September that Watertown, CT, police say a 14-year-old boy got hold of an unsecured gun in his house and then accidentally shot himself in the head.
Now comes word from the police that the teen has woken in his hospital bed. He's now of the woods, yet, says Police Chief Joshua Bernegger. He says that the teen remains in critical but stable condition.
When the boy was found after getting shot, police said that he was conscious, but incoherent. Now, the update is that he has regained consciousness.
While the boy recovers, police continue to investigate. So far, they have not determined who owned the gun. Figuring that out could move the investigation to a new direction, since all homes in Connecticut with
minors are required under Ethan's Law to keep any guns safely stored.
