HARTFORD, CONN. (WTIC Radio)-A group representing more than 60 community, faith, labor and non-profit advocacy are looking to the Governor and lawmakers to increase funding for issues including early childcare and higher education, housing, HUSKY for immigrants and a fight against employer wage theft.
Advocates including New Haven State Senator Gary Winfield said it's time to adjust the financial guardrails on the budget to provide more funding.
West Hartford State Representative Jillian Gilchrest said Governor Lamont and lawmakers have the opportunity to provide additional funding.
Those speaking at a press conference said the picture in Connecticut is a contrast between the haves and have-nots: In New Haven long lines waiting for food versus wealthy hedge fund managers
They also said contrary to the Governor's assessment, the state is not in good fiscal health, when children are sleeping in the streets and people work three jobs to survive.
The legislative session starts Wednesday and several groups are looking for increased funding.
